Advice that your boss can’t argue against (when taken in moderation)
Man, I couldn’t have said this better:
. . . if you don’t have the time to do it right, there’s no way in the world you’ll find the time to do it over.
Ever since I read this statement in Seth Godin’s blog, I’ve been trying to remind myself of it whenever the project managers are putting on a little heat; it’s funny how much this so-called heat is in line with the “emergencies” that Godin shuns.
I hate to think of all the times that I have cut corners on development, only to have it bite me in the ass later down the road. The first request for a new feature becomes a project involving a full system audit!
I’ve been trying my hardest to follow Godin’s advice at my new job (also known as “my clean slate”). I can’t wait until I finish up my current big project so I can share it with everyone. It’s taken a little longer than expected, but I know for a fact that it will be well worth the extra time.
