Internet Explorer tabs in Firefox

Filed under: Tools for the Job — Chris Peters, June 8, 2006

Click the little IT Tab icon in Firefox to open a new tab with Internet Explorer-generated content. Not sure why I didn’t find this little gem until now. Did you know that you can open Internet Explorer-rendered web pages in Firefox tabs? No more headaches that are involved with managing ten IE windows being open! Works pretty well in most cases. Looks like it uses an IE plugin much like how Contribute and Eclipse work with their embedded browsers.

One little trick: After installing the plug-in, right click the toolbar area that contains your Back, Stop, Reload, etc. buttons and click Customize…. Then drag the IE Tab into your browser’s toolbar.

  1. I use it too, but I just found out that is on a list of top FireFox extensions with memory leaks :(

  2. Bummer. I’ll have to see if the benefits outweigh that cost. Maybe it’s worth an extra reboot here and there.
