Does our education stifle creativity?
After several months, I finally got to this item on my to-watch list:
Robinson gives an entertaining critique on our education system and how it implants the fear of failure into our minds at an early age.
In this system, we are rewarded for not making mistakes. For me, making mistakes has been one of the key ingredients to creativity and learning in general. As a developer, I could point out a hundred things I was doing wrong three years ago that I have since learned from. And I am sure I am making mistakes right now. But being around those who encourage creativity has allowed for me to experiment and thus thrive as a creator.
It’ll be interesting to see how this type of thinking will influence education systems in the coming years. Will our children’s schools be any different than ours were, or will we keep feeding them Ritalin to suppress their true desires to be creative?
