Chris Peters: Web Developer

On to a career as a search marketer

Filed under: Career & Lifestyle — Chris Peters, April 11, 2007

It’s been a while since I’ve posted because I’ve been busy changing directions in my career. I regret that I haven’t posted in my blog during these times because I’ve learned so much that I could have shared with you. But now the hiatus is over, and I will begin sharing again. (I promise!)

So what’s new with me? A ton. I think these changes will give me plenty to write about in this blog during the coming months:

  • I’ve started a new position as Search Marketing Manager for Quest Software. Expect posts about what I’m learning as I implement organic SEO and search advertising campaigns.
  • I just released the second iteration of the online toner cartridge store at Perfect PC. I’ve been using PHP, MySQL, and the Zend Framework for development. I’m sure I’ll have a lot to share about the Zend Framework, implementing ecommerce, and optimizing content for search engines in such an overcrowded market. There’s a lot of work yet to be done on the site too.
  • I’m working on interface design for an ecommerce site that sells customizable paper memory books. It’ll be fun to focus on designing for an audience composed of mainly women and to design for a product catalog that is so customizable.
  • I’m developing a business plan that involves building ecommerce sites for small businesses, with an easy to afford payment plan. I love working with small businesses, but they tend to not have the capital to pay for my services. My idea isn’t developed very far yet, so maybe it would make a good discussion point on this blog.

I’m excited to be stepping out of my comfort zone and am looking forward to sharing what I learn with you along the way. I promise I’ll pay more attention to you, my friend!
